Pelican Birding Lodge is located in the village of Vetren, close to the town of Silistra. Vetren is situated two kilometers from the River Danube, and close to the internationally important nature reserve at Lake Srebarna, a UNESCO heritage site.
The environs along the Danube attract a wide range of birdlife throughout the year. Lake Srebarna is world-famous for a colony of world-threatened Dalmatian Pelicans, and many other interesting and rare species which prefer a wetland habitat.
The lodge has been purpose built in a local and traditional architectural style. It has 7 en suite rooms with hot water, heating, air conditioning, television and internet access. The lodge also has a large “mehana” where you can relax and consume your drinks and meals, or just sit down and relax after a day out.
Pelican Lodge, is situated in a beautiful natural setting, offering you tranquility, a warm Bulgarian welcome, and a range of outdoor holiday activities. The lodge is situated next to a small wood which abounds with bird song throughout the year. The gardens and woodlands are not only important for birds, as they also attract butterflies, damsel and dragonflies, mammals and rare plants. In nearby areas the calls of European Jackals are regularly heard. Vetren, is an ideal base for cycling in beautiful surroundings or freshwater fishing along the Danube and inland lakes. Other possibilities are visits to archaeological and historical sites, local folklore, traditional Bulgarian cuisine and world-famous wines, and other regional drinks.
